EcoFlow RIVER 3

Reviewers call the RIVER 3 a strict upgrade on the RIVER 2, quieter, lighter, tougher and cheaper, rightly, about the hardware. Its owners run below the norm anyway, because eight serious reports concern what follows the sale: a scrambled screen, a refund that never came. A quarter kilowatt-hour at eight pounds, one afternoon off-grid, and 10 wins in 28 head-to-heads.

Buy the RIVER 3 if…

  • You want a touch more capacity at a good marginal price — 15Wh more for $10, below the base per-Wh rate.

  • You want the cheapest cost-per-kWh in the lineup and you're confident you won't need to expand later.

    Decided 5 matchups · read one →

  • Buy the RIVER 3 if the job is one or two small devices and getting there is half the battle — 7.8 lbs is a bag you don't think about, not a box you plan a parking spot for.

    Decided 2 matchups · read one →

  • Your loads are phones, laptops, small electronics, or a CPAP — nothing that pushes past 300W continuous.

A rival won when…

  • You want the quieter unit (25dB) and don't mind $31 more or a slightly heavier bag.

    Decided 7 matchups · read one →

  • You run a CPAP. A 320Wh night uses 60% of what this delivers, which means it also covers the night the power comes back late.

  • You're powering something with real, sustained draw for hours — a tailgate, a workspace, anything beyond a phone — where the RIVER 3's 300W output runs out of headroom fast.

  • Buyers who want the most capacity in the class: 288Wh to the RIVER 3's 245, plus the faster 10ms transfer that held a full desk through a pulled plug [B7].

How to read this

  • Usual is the price the unit carried most of the time, tested for how long it held rather than how often we looked. A weekend promotion cannot move it.
  • Best is the lowest price we have read on the store itself. Typed coupon codes, member-only prices and marketplace listings are not counted; anything applied automatically at checkout is.
  • A gap in the line is a day we could not read a price. We never draw across one, and we never show the store’s own “was” price.

Reviewer consensus

4/4 positive excerpts, 4 sources

The RIVER 3 improves on the RIVER 2 across the board — quieter (sub-30 dB), IP54-rugged, faster UPS, more capacity, lighter, and cheaper — a rare strict upgrade.

From the test desk

  • At the exact same $209, the Elite 30 V2 delivers 43 more Wh, double the continuous output, 2.5x the surge, and a switchover twice as fast — that's a real hardware edge with no price tradeoff attached.

  • Buy the RIVER 2 Max if your loads ever approach 300Wh or you need overnight CPAP power; buy the RIVER 3 if they don't.

  • Take the DELTA 3 Max if you're genuinely deciding between these two for backup power.

Questions people ask

What's actually different between the EcoFlow RIVER 3 and BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 at the same price?

The Elite 30 V2 holds more capacity (288Wh against 245Wh), doubles the continuous output, carries 2.5x the surge rating, and switches over twice as fast. The RIVER 3 counters with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance that the Elite 30 V2 doesn't have, plus a 2.5 lb weight advantage. Price, warranty, and noise rating are all identical.

From ecoflow river 3 vs bluetti elite 30 v2

Is the RIVER 3 actually better than the RIVER 2 it replaced?

By reviewer consensus, yes — more capacity, less weight, a lower price, and a sub-30dB noise floor EcoFlow calls whisper quiet, a major step down from the RIVER 2's louder operation [A1][A4]. That upgrade doesn't carry the same weight against the Elite 30 V2, though, which still beats the RIVER 3 on most power specs at the identical price.

From ecoflow river 3 vs bluetti elite 30 v2

Is the RIVER 3 better than the RIVER 2 Max?

It's the newer and more refined unit — quieter at 30dB, IP54 weatherproof, nearly six pounds lighter, with a faster UPS switchover — but it holds 245Wh to the Max's 512Wh. For light daily charging the RIVER 3 is the nicer thing to own; for CPAP overnight or any load past about 245Wh, the Max's capacity wins. 'Better' depends entirely on how much energy you need at once.

From ecoflow river 2 max vs ecoflow river 3

Can the RIVER 3 run a CPAP overnight?

Not reliably. Its 245Wh is below the roughly 320Wh a CPAP draws over a full night, so it's likely to run out before morning. If overnight CPAP power is why you're shopping, the RIVER 2 Max's 512Wh is the safer choice even though it's the louder unit on paper — that noise rating is a charging figure a light CPAP load never triggers.

From ecoflow river 2 max vs ecoflow river 3

Is the EcoFlow RIVER 3 basically a smaller DELTA 3 Max?

Not really — they're built for different jobs, not scaled versions of the same one. The RIVER 3 is 7.8 lbs and 245Wh, sized to be carried; the DELTA 3 Max is 50.7 lbs and 2,048Wh, sized to sit in one place and cover a real outage. The DELTA 3 Max also accepts EcoFlow expansion batteries and the RIVER 3 doesn't, so even their growth paths point in different directions.
