What's actually different between the RIVER 3 MAX and RIVER 3 PLUS?
Mainly battery capacity and price. The MAX holds 572Wh for $319; the PLUS holds 286Wh for $279 but has a higher 200W solar input against the MAX's 110W. Weight, output, surge, cycle life, and warranty are identical on both.
Is the RIVER 3 PLUS a worse deal than the MAX?
Per watt-hour, yes — $.98 against the MAX's $.56. But it's a smaller unit at a lower price, not a defective one. If 286Wh genuinely covers your typical use, the PLUS is a legitimate way to spend $40 less.
Can the RIVER 3 PLUS run a CPAP all night?
Not on its own. A CPAP overnight needs about 320Wh, more than the PLUS's 286Wh base capacity, while the MAX covers it comfortably at 66% of its tank. The PLUS would need an expansion battery to close that gap.
