Could a Battery Replace a Detailer’s Gas Generator? We Ran the Numbers.

For most rigs, yes. We went down a rabbit hole of detailers running their whole rigs off batteries, pausing every video where the station’s screen was readable. After 24 runs and trips, the surprise wasn’t how much power a pressure washer uses. It was the moment it wakes up.

Can a battery replace a detailing generator?Three numbers decide whether your rig goes quiet.

2,100 W

The most any washer pulled once it got going.

That’s less than a toaster and a coffee maker running together, and most big stations shrug it off. The trouble is the instant the motor kicks on. We watched an AR630 knock out an 1,800 W EcoFlow that had just run a Kränzle without complaint. Same station, very different morning.

4,800 W

The gas generator Kränzle wants you to own.

Kränzle USA is blunt about it: no inverter generators, and anything smaller isn’t covered under warranty. Every power station is an inverter, so strictly speaking you’re off the map. Detailers do it anyway, and plenty get away with it. The sheet below shows exactly where.

2,580 Wh

What one steamer ate in a single interior.

That was one seven-hour minivan rescue. The steamer alone burned through what the pressure washer uses in three to five jobs. If you steam a lot, that’s the tool to budget your battery around.

It’s a fun one. It has the same kind of motor as the Kränzle that ran happily on an 1,800 W EcoFlow, and the same Total Stop start as the AR630 that knocked that very station offline. So which half of its personality wins? We’re about to find out on our own units, and whatever happens goes straight into the sheet below.

PSA tested. Power Station Arena tested it on our own unit; the cell says whether it ran or tripped.
Ran. A detailer filmed it running on this exact unit.
Ran, trips sometimes. Filmed running on this exact unit, with the owner reporting occasional trips.
Tripped. A detailer filmed it tripping this exact unit.
Should run (ran on a weaker unit). Nobody has tried it on this unit, but it ran on one with lower running and surge ratings.
Likely trips (tripped a stronger unit). Nobody has tried it on this unit, but it tripped one with running and surge ratings at least as high.
Over the limit (draws more than its rating). Its measured running draw alone is above this unit’s running rating.
Should run (heater, no motor start). A heating load has no motor startup, and its measured draw fits this unit’s rating.
Untested. No recorded run or trip on this unit or a comparable one.
Testing soon. Our own test of this washer on our own unit is on the way.

Should run

Nobody has tried it on the DELTA 3 Plus. It ran on the EcoFlow DELTA 1300 (1,800 W running, 3,300 W surge), which is rated lower than this one (1,800 W running, 3,600 W surge), so this one should handle it too.

  • IMJOSHV at 3:22 · as they said itK1122TST (15 A on its label) ran on the 1,800 W unit.

Kränzle USA: “at least a 4,800 watt generator … Do NOT use “inverter” generators” — lower watts are “not covered under warranty.”

Running tools at the same time

One honest caveat: every maker measures surge its own way, and only BLUETTI says how long its surge lasts. So “Should run” is our best read across brands, not a promise.

How many cars per charge?Your steamer drains the battery. Your washer barely touches it.

Our yardstick is Dawson’s Detailing, who put a watt-hour counter on screen for every job, on a DELTA Pro Ultra. That’s a lot of battery, and some very honest numbers.

Your days will probably come in lighter. One detailer got 12 mostly-maintenance vehicles out of a 3,600 Wh DELTA Pro over four days (DETAILSofficial), about 300 Wh a car. Treat the table as your heavy-day plan.

Whole jobs on one full charge: battery capacity divided by the logged job size. Add an extra battery and the numbers multiply.

What can each station run at once?Under 3,600 W, it’s the washer or the vacuum. Not both.

This is where budgets get real. The smaller stations are fine if you don’t mind switching the washer off before you grab the vacuum. Want the washer, vacuum and compressor all humming at once? That list gets short: DELTA Pro Ultra and SOLIX F3800.

The highlighted line compares a Kränzle-class washer (1,650 W), a vacuum and a compressor at their measured running draw against the station’s running rating. Prices are the makers’ listed prices, checked October 21, 2026. We earn a commission on some purchases, at no extra cost to you.

How do you recharge between jobs?Everyone wants the alternator charger. The shop outlet does the real work.

Overnight charging is the unglamorous hero. One detailer’s 12 kWh setup was full again after about seven hours plugged in overnight. If you can, fit a charging inlet on the van, like the one in the rig that started this page. Plugging in the van beats hauling a 100-pound battery out every night.

An alternator charger is a top-up, not a power plant. An 800 W charger adds at most about 0.8 kWh per hour of driving. That’s less than half a 1,875 Wh maintenance detail, so think of it as stretching the day, not refilling it.

Roof solar is lovely. It’s also slow. Detailers ran 200 W to 1,200 W of panels on their van roofs. The smaller arrays mostly slowed the drain during the day rather than filling the battery back up.

At night outside a detailing shop, a detailer glances back with a tired smile as he plugs a yellow extension cord from the shop wall into an inlet beside the van’s tail light; the battery inside glows green

Battery or gas generator?Gas still wins on run time. Battery wins the 7 a.m. driveway.

From the makers’ manuals and spec pages. Fuel per hour is the maker’s quarter-load runtime divided by tank size; none publishes a half-load figure.

Gas still wins on run time, and it isn’t close. A Predator 3500 inverter burns about 0.21 gallons an hour at a quarter load. That’s close to 4.8 hours on a gallon, and refilling takes a minute. No battery refills in a minute.

A battery wins the moment you pull into a client’s driveway. No fumes, no gas can rattling around the van, and nobody in a bathrobe squinting at you at 7 a.m.

California is nudging everyone along. California requires new portable generators sold there to meet zero-emission standards starting with 2028 models. Generators already owned are not affected, and nothing bans running one. CARB promised a 2025–26 review of whether the 2028 date is feasible; none was posted as of October 21, 2026. (CARB)

What detailers say when nobody’s selling them anything

QuestionsWhat detailers keep asking in the comments

Can a power station run a pressure washer?

Yes, if it survives the washer’s start. Electric pressure washers on detailers’ rigs drew 1,336 W to 2,100 W once running: within reach of an 1,800 W station for the lighter ones, and of 2,400 W and up for all of them. The start is the problem: an AR630-class total-stop washer started and then overloaded an 1,800 W EcoFlow DELTA 1300, while a Kränzle 1122TST ran on the same unit. No washer maker publishes its startup draw, so the trip sheet on this page uses recorded runs and trips only.

What size generator do I need for mobile detailing?

For a battery, start from the tools you run at the same time. A pressure washer plus a vacuum is about 3,091 W together, a washer, vacuum and compressor about 4,551 W. For energy, one detailer’s station logged 1,875 Wh for a maintenance detail and 3,146 Wh for a full inside-and-out detail. For a gas generator, Kränzle USA asks for at least 4,800 W for its 1122TST, 1622TS and 1322.

Will a Kränzle run on an EcoFlow or other power station?

It has: a Kränzle K1122TST ran on an 1,800 W EcoFlow DELTA 1300 and a K1322TS ran at 1,536 W on a DELTA Pro, both in detailers’ own videos. Kränzle USA still says to use “at least a 4,800 watt generator”, not to use inverter generators, and that lower watts are “not covered under warranty”. Every power station’s outlet is an inverter, so running a Kränzle on one is outside what Kränzle USA covers.

How many cars can I detail on one charge?

It depends on the tools more than the battery. Per-job readings on a DELTA Pro Ultra: 1,875 Wh for a maintenance detail, 3,146 Wh for a full detail and 6,655 Wh for a seven-hour interior with a steamer. Lighter rigs use far less: one detailer averaged about 300 Wh a car across 12 mostly-maintenance vehicles on a 3,600 Wh DELTA Pro. Steamers and heated extractors use the most.

Can I charge a power station while driving between jobs?

Yes, with an alternator charger, but it stretches a day rather than powering one. An 800 W charger adds at most about 0.8 kWh per hour of driving, less than half of a 1,875 Wh maintenance detail. The makers’ own run $199 to $400; EcoFlow’s 800 W unit was sold out on October 21, 2026. Most detailers recharge overnight at a wall outlet.

Are gas generators being banned for detailers?

California requires new portable generators sold there to meet zero-emission standards starting with 2028 models. Generators already owned are not affected, and nothing bans running one. CARB promised a 2025–26 review of whether the 2028 date is feasible; none was posted as of October 21, 2026. Outside California, the pressure on gas generators is noise and fumes at clients’ homes and offices rather than law.

Sources and methodWhere every number on this page comes from

How we did it: we went through YouTube, Instagram and r/AutoDetailing for detailers running tools on batteries, and paused wherever the station’s screen was readable. If a creator only said a number out loud, we mark it “as they said it”. Tool ratings come from the makers’ manuals. Station ratings, capacities and prices come from our catalogue, which reads the makers’ stores.
