$719 against $359 looks like the whole story until you divide. The DELTA 3 Plus works out to $0.67 per watt-hour of capacity; the Explorer 500 is $0.69. The cheaper unit costs slightly more per unit of the thing you are actually buying, and it does that before a single cycle has gone by.

What the $360 buys is a different class of machine: 1,024Wh against 518, 1,800W of continuous output against 500, 4,000 rated cycles against 800, a 10ms UPS switchover against no UPS mode at all, and 1,000W of solar input against 100. The Explorer answers with 13.3 pounds against 27. That is a real answer. It is just the only one.

So the question is not which is better. It is whether your load ever exceeds 440Wh, which is all the Explorer's 518Wh gives you once you dock 15% for inverter losses. Phones, a laptop, camp lights and a fan for a couple of nights a year, and the Explorer is a sensible $359. The Explorer 500 tops out at 100W of solar input, so a full 518Wh refill is about five hours of perfect sun. The 7.4-hour figure on this card is the realistic version: it assumes roughly 70W actually arriving, not the 100W on the label. The DELTA 3 Plus takes 1,000W in, ten times the ceiling, which puts a full 1,024Wh refill near an hour of strong sun. For a weekend that is a footnote. For a multi-day outage it is the difference between a battery you are always charging and one you top up between other jobs.

Without app control, you have to physically walk to the Explorer 500 to check battery level, adjust settings, or monitor power draw. The DELTA 3 Plus lets you do all that from your phone, including getting low-battery alerts.
