What each line is for

Two lines, two different jobs

Jackery Explorer

Explorer is Jackery's original and much broader line, running from units small enough for a daypack up to large trailer-sized ones. It’s the range you shop when portability is part of the requirement, and its breadth is its real advantage — there’s an Explorer at almost every size a buyer might want.

Jackery HomePower

HomePower is the newer line, aimed at backup duty rather than travel. Every unit is built to be placed and left: faster switchover for sensitive equipment, more capacity accepted from solar, expansion batteries across most of the line, and cells rated for the longest service life of anything we track.

The comparability question

Are these two lines even competing?

Before asking which is better, it's worth asking whether they overlap at all.

These lines overlap through the middle, and there they compete directly — several pairs hold the same capacity and the same rated output, including one pair whose published specifications are identical down to the weight.

Outside that band the comparison breaks down. Explorer reaches both far smaller and far larger than HomePower does, so at the extremes there’s no HomePower alternative to consider. And if the unit will be cycled daily rather than used a few weekends a year, the two lines' very different cycle ratings turn what looks like a close call into a clear one.

Lifespan

A cycle is one full discharge and recharge, and the rating is roughly how many you get before capacity settles to about 80% of new. The figure only bites in proportion to how often you cycle: at ten weekends a year the difference between these two lines is academic, while at daily use it’s several years of service.

HomePower carries the joint-longest cycle rating of any line we track, around 50% above Explorer's. For a unit that lives in a cupboard and comes out occasionally, this barely matters. For one backing up a house every day, it’s the most consequential number on the page.

Carry weight

Watt-hours per pound is how much energy you get for what you have to lift. It says nothing about total capacity — a dense unit can still be too heavy to move if it’s simply large.

The counter-intuitive result: the "home" line is the lighter one per watt-hour, and by a wide margin — HomePower is the densest line in the catalog. Explorer's advantage is that it comes in genuinely small sizes, not that it packs energy more efficiently.

Expandability is whether a unit accepts a second battery later. It separates a finished appliance from the first component of a larger system.

Switchover speed

When utility power drops, a unit with UPS passthrough takes over — but not instantly. Under about 10ms almost nothing notices. Around 20ms most equipment rides through, but sensitive gear can blink: a desktop may reboot, some CPAP units will alarm.

HomePower halves the switchover time and is safe for sensitive equipment as a class, where Explorer is model-by-model. If the purpose is riding out power cuts without a desktop rebooting, this points at HomePower on its own.

What is the difference between Jackery Explorer and HomePower?

Explorer is the broad portable line, spanning far smaller and far larger sizes than HomePower offers. HomePower is the newer backup line and leads on nearly every measured axis: roughly 50% more charge cycles, the highest energy density in our catalog, twice the switchover speed, and more than double the share of models that accept an expansion battery. Both lines behave identically under load for a given size.

Is HomePower just a rebranded Explorer?

No. The specifications differ substantially — HomePower is rated for around 50% more charge cycles, is denser per watt-hour, switches to battery about twice as fast, and expands more readily. Some individual models across the two lines do share identical published specifications, but as ranges they’re meaningfully different designs.

Which Jackery line lasts longer?

HomePower, by a clear margin — it carries the joint-longest cycle rating of any line we track, roughly 50% above Explorer. How much that matters depends on use: cycled daily it’s worth several years of service, but at a few weekends a year neither line will reach its rating in any realistic ownership period.

Is HomePower portable?
