Can I add more battery capacity to either unit later?
Only the RIVER 3 MAX. It accepts an add-on battery and grows past its base capacity without replacing the unit. The Yeti 500 is a sealed system — outgrowing 499Wh means buying an entirely new unit.
Which one is quieter?
The RIVER 3 MAX is independently tested under 30dB. Goal Zero doesn't publish a noise spec for the Yeti 500 at all, which is a real gap to weigh if you're planning to run it near where you sleep.
