Where the AC50B earns its place is the scale, not the spec sheet. 14.8 lbs is a one-hand lift out of a car footwell; 25 lbs is the other kind. If what you're powering is a CPAP, a laptop, phones and camera batteries, the smaller box does that job and keeps $100 in your pocket doing it.

Runtime: Will It Power Your Gear?

Usable energy is where the box lies to you politely. A rated 448Wh becomes 381Wh once the inverter takes its cut, and 1,024Wh becomes 870Wh, so the real gap you're buying is 489Wh rather than the 576Wh printed on the two labels.
The output figure matters more than either. 700W is a ceiling you hit by accident, and one appliance with a heating element in it is all it takes for the AC50B to simply decline. 1,800W continuous covers the same appliance, with 2,700W of surge headroom for the spike a compressor throws on startup. Same brand, same chemistry, same five-year term, and the bigger box is the cheaper energy by a wide margin.
There is a fair counter, and it's the AC50B's best one. Warranty coverage costs $56 a year on the AC50B and $100 on the Elite, which is just $399 and $499 divided across five years. If you plan to own the thing for the warranty period and cycle it a handful of times a year, per-kWh is an accounting fiction and the annual cost of being covered is the number that touches your wallet.

The 1,800W inverter is the part that actually changes what you can plug in, and no amount of saving gets you there from the small end. Both are figures taken under conditions the manufacturer picked and you don't control, and the Elite's quiet rating belongs to a mode that caps how hard it will work. Use it to break a tie for a bedside unit. Don't let it carry $100.
Power Lifting: 1,000W and 2,700W
Both units have BLUETTI's Power Lifting mode: the AC50B to 1,000W on a 700W inverter, the Elite 100 V2 to 2,700W on 1,800W. It works by delivering less power than the appliance asks for rather than more than the inverter has, so the appliance runs slower rather than not at all. BLUETTI scopes the mode to purely resistive loads — a heater, a kettle, an incandescent lamp — so it does nothing for a fridge compressor, a pump or a power tool, and neither record publishes an instantaneous surge figure, so this is not a comparison of startup headroom. Judge it on which ceiling covers the resistive load you actually own.

It's that you can't get where the Elite lives from the cheaper end: two AC50Bs cost more, weigh more, hold less, and hand you two 700W ceilings instead of one 1,800W one. The Elite is the cheaper energy over its life and the only one of the two whose inverter stays out of your way.
The AC50B isn't the wrong answer for everyone. If your list is a CPAP and some electronics, and the box spends more time in your hand than under load, buy it and keep the $100. Does the B80 expansion battery make the AC50B bigger?
Not in the way the word expansion suggests. BLUETTI's own FAQ scopes the B80 to Power Bank Mode over an Aviation-to-XT60 cable, meaning it recharges the AC50B rather than joining it as one larger battery. It's useful for stretching a weekend away from an outlet. It does nothing for the 700W output ceiling or for how much you can draw before the unit needs topping up.

On the rating, the Elite: 30 dB against 45. Treat that gap with some caution though. Both figures are measured under conditions the manufacturer chose, and the Elite's quiet number specifically belongs to its Silent mode, which caps how hard it charges and discharges.
