It covers an afternoon of phones, a speaker and a camera battery with about half the pack still in reserve. It does not cover a night on a CPAP, a day working from a truck, or any of the four load profiles here that neither unit finishes.
The RIVER 3 MAX PLUS is the better machine, and EcoFlow no longer sells it. 858Wh against 230Wh, 600W continuous against 300W, 200W of solar input against 110W, a ≤10ms rated UPS switchover against ≤20ms. Before you weight that heavily, notice what expansion buys at this size: more hours on the same small loads, not a home backup system. And people rarely outgrow a 230Wh unit because their needs crept up. They outgrow it because the job was bigger than 230Wh on the day they bought. Expansion doesn't rescue the wrong size; buying the right size does.
≤10ms and ≤20ms are ratings, not stopwatch results
Both units list a UPS mode and the MAX PLUS lists the faster class, ≤10ms against ≤20ms. Read both as ceilings the maker commits to rather than anything we clocked.
