The RIVER 2 Max doesn't finish our eight-hour blackout, our camping weekend, our remote workday or our tailgate. That isn't a criticism of a $289 power station. It's what 512Wh is, and the Elite 300's 3,014Wh is the whole reason this page has a clear answer instead of a shrug.

The Elite 300 is $1,199 against $289: about four times the money for about six times the energy, which makes the expensive unit the cheaper one per watt-hour. So buying these back to back isn't an upgrade decision. It's a sizing decision with a $910 receipt attached.

Now the catch, because this is the number most likely to talk somebody into the wrong purchase: you only collect the seven cents by actually cycling the battery. Someone who tops up a phone and runs a fan for an evening is buying a cost per kilowatt-hour they will never spend, and either unit will outlast their interest in it. The per-kWh math argues for the Elite 300 only if your loads fill it. Cheap energy you don't use is just an expensive box.

Brand Trust

Selected because: Both warranties run up to 5 years, but with both brands the outcome depends on where you bought, which matters more on a $1,199 unit than a $289 one.

The two brands fail in opposite directions. EcoFlow has the deepest lineup in portable power, the largest community in the space, US-based phone support, and no parts or service at all once the warranty lapses. BLUETTI has some of the best capacity per dollar in the catalog and the most inconsistent support in the category: email-heavy, on China time, and noticeably better when you bought direct.

That resolves into an instruction rather than a preference. The Elite 300 wins because nearly everything people buy this class for needs more than 512Wh, and the RIVER 2 Max cannot be talked into holding more. It misses the tailgate, the remote workday, the eight-hour blackout and the camping weekend, and the gaps run from a couple of hundred watt-hours to four figures. It is also, awkwardly for the cheaper unit, the more expensive one per watt-hour, with half the rated cycles and 220W of solar input against 1,200W, so a multi-day outage turns into rationing rather than an afternoon of sun. One brand printed a decibel figure and the other didn't, which is a difference in disclosure rather than a difference in noise. And a spec-sheet number is not a measurement of your bedroom. The load that matters here is small: a CPAP-level 40W is 8% of the RIVER 2 Max's 500W rating and under 2% of the Elite 300's 2,400W, so neither inverter is working hard, and the real question is whether a fan cycles at all at that load. Nothing on either spec sheet answers it. If the unit sleeps in the bedroom, find somebody who has heard one running.

Rated at 10ms and 30ms, and Both Are Ceilings

Both units list a UPS mode, and both figures are rated maximums rather than stopwatch results. The Elite 300's class, no worse than 10ms, is quick enough on paper that a desktop or a router should ride through a cut. The RIVER 2 Max's, no worse than 30ms, is long enough that many desktops will not, so if the thing you're protecting is a computer with unsaved work, plan on a reboot. The open question isn't capacity, it's the fan: EcoFlow publishes a 62dB spec-sheet figure and BLUETTI publishes none for the Elite 300, and neither number tells you what happens at 3 a.m. under a 40W load.

Is the BLUETTI Elite 300 worth $910 more than the RIVER 2 Max?

If any one of your uses needs more energy than the RIVER 2 Max holds, yes, because a unit that stops early doesn't get cheaper. The Elite 300 also costs less per watt-hour on the sticker and less per kilowatt-hour across its rated life.
