EcoFlow has stopped selling the RIVER 2 Max. Its store lists it as sold out in every version and offers the RIVER 2 Max 500 instead, the same unit with a slightly smaller battery. So if you are here, you probably own one already, or you found one on a retailer's shelf and want to know what you would give up against a DELTA 3.
Capacity is the obvious gap. The DELTA 3 holds twice as much. The inverter, the part that turns battery power into household AC, is the bigger gap: 500W on the RIVER 2 Max against 1,800W on the DELTA 3. A full battery does nothing for a kettle the inverter cannot start, and no amount of patience or solar changes that.
I'd still pack the small one for a stargazing night up on the ridge. At 13.4 lb it goes in one hand with the telescope case in the other, and reviewers keep praising how light it is and how fast it refills from the wallB1B2. For a laptop, phones, lights and a telescope, 512Wh is plenty. For anything that heats, it never was.

The noise card needs a careful read: EcoFlow's 62 dB for the RIVER 2 Max is a maximum under heavy charging or discharging, while the DELTA 3's 30 dB is a best case, so the two figures are different kinds of number.
Switchover and expansion are the cards that count. In UPS mode, where the unit takes over the instant wall power drops, the DELTA 3 is rated at 10ms or less, quick enough on paper for desktop PCs and routers. EcoFlow rates the RIVER 2 Max at 62 dB as a maximum, reached while charging or discharging hard. The DELTA 3's 30 dB is a best case. At a light bedside load the real gap is narrower than the numbers suggest and may even run the other way, so do not let this row pick your unit.
Sealed at 512Wh, and mostly that is fine
The RIVER 2 Max takes no expansion battery. At 13.4 lb and 512Wh it is a finished object, and nobody buys one planning to grow it into home backup. If you are unsure whether 512Wh covers you, the answer is a bigger base unit like the DELTA 3, which also takes expansion batteries later.
Switchover: 10ms against 30ms

Is the RIVER 2 Max still sold?
Not by EcoFlow. Its store lists the 512Wh RIVER 2 Max as sold out in every version and sells the RIVER 2 Max 500 instead, which has the same output and ports with a slightly smaller battery. Some retailer stock may remain.
What can't the RIVER 2 Max run?
Anything drawing more than 500W continuously, or needing more than 1,000W to start. That rules out most heat-producing kitchen appliances and many power tools, and a full charge does not change it. The DELTA 3's 1,800W continuous and 3,600W surge clear that same list.
