Both of these cost 74 cents per watt-hour, to the cent: $299 buys 512Wh, $1,125 buys 1,516Wh. That takes the usual value question off the table before you start. You aren't choosing between a deal and a markup here. You're choosing a size.
The difference shows up later. The Power 500's cells are rated for 4,000 cycles and the Yeti 1500X's for 500, so 512Wh × 4,000 cycles is 2,048 kWh of energy across the Power 500's service life, against 1,516Wh × 500, or 758 kWh, for the Yeti. What deserves closer reading is the three that go to neither unit, because the summary copy treats them alike and they are nothing alike. Read that once and the rest of this table is bookkeeping: two units that price capacity identically on day one, separated by that much over their service lives, entirely because one is rated for 4,000 cycles and the other for 500.
Two caveats, both against our own pick. Our data carries the Power 500 at a flat 4,000 cycles while the source behind that figure describes the cells as 3,000-4,000A1; take the bottom of the range and 512Wh × 3,000 cycles puts a $299 unit at 25 cents per lifetime kilowatt-hour rather than 19. The conclusion doesn't move, but quote the 19 with that in mind. Second, the years column counts cycles rather than energy, and a Yeti cycle moves 1,516Wh where a Power 500 cycle moves 512Wh. Read '11 years against 1.4' as a statement about how many times each pack can be emptied, not about how much work it will have done.
What the Specs Don't Tell You
Selected because: The Power 500's surge field just repeats its 1,000W continuous rating, and the UPS row runs the other way: 20ms rated on the DJI, nothing at all on the Yeti 1500X.

The surge row needs reading twice. The Yeti's 3,500W over a 2,000W continuous rating is a published ceiling, so you can hold a compressor's startup draw against it and get an answer. The Power 500's surge is listed at 1,000W, which is also its continuous rating, and that is what an unfilled spec field looks like rather than an inverter with no headroom. Testing has it running a 905W load and briefly taking a 1,500W surge above the ratingA3. Treat its headroom as unpublished, not absent, and then buy the Yeti anyway if a motor is why you're here.
The UPS row runs the other way and it's cleaner. The Power 500 is rated to switch to battery in 20 milliseconds. The Yeti 1500X publishes no changeover figure because the X series doesn't do uninterruptible switchover at all, so anything plugged into it goes dark when the wall power does. For a router or a desk PC on a circuit that flickers, that's the difference between a unit that tries and one that doesn't. Both are real, and both are worth $1,125 to the people they apply to. Battery expansion arrived on the Power 2000 and the Power 1000 V2 and never came back to the Power 500.

- →You're topping up drone and camera batteries, a laptop and some phones out of a truck bed. 512Wh covers that list several times over, the whole unit is 16.1 lbs, and DJI's SDC ports refill DJI gear faster than anything else here will.
- →You want the router and the desk PC to ride through a flicker. One of these is rated to switch to battery in 20ms; the other has no changeover at all.
- →It's a CPAP and not much else. 320Wh out of 435Wh usable leaves 115Wh in reserve, and this is the only one of the two with a published 25dB to sleep beside.

Buy the Yeti 1500X if you…

If neither fits
If what keeps you up is an eight-hour outage with the fridge running, close the tab on both. That scenario needs 1,645Wh, the bigger of these two comes up 356Wh short of it, and the smaller one brings 435Wh usable to the same 1,645Wh problem. Van life at 4,685Wh a day is further out still, missing by 3,396Wh even on the Yeti. Shop LiFePO4 stations sized comfortably past 1,645Wh with expansion available, and treat both of these as the wrong size rather than the wrong choice.
The Bottom Line
Take the Power 500. The number that settles it is the one you can run in your head: three of them at $299 each cost $1,137 and hold 1,536Wh, which is the Yeti's capacity at the Yeti's price, in pieces one person lifts, on cells rated for 4,000 cycles instead of 500. Capacity per dollar is not what the Yeti is selling.
What it's selling is capacity in one place, and that's worth real money if you can name the load: a single draw the Power 500's 435Wh usable can't reach, or a motor that needs a published surge ceiling. Name it and buy the Yeti with a clear conscience. Fail to name it and you're spending $1,125 on watt-hours you'll consume in pieces anyway, from a battery that runs short of cycles long before you're done with it.

Can the DJI Power 500 run my fridge through a blackout?
Not a whole one. The eight-hour blackout profile here needs 1,645Wh and the Power 500 has 435Wh usable, leaving it 1,210Wh short. It will keep a fridge cold for part of an evening or run a CPAP all night, and that's the honest ceiling. Worth knowing that the Yeti 1500X doesn't cover it either, missing by 356Wh.
Why is the Yeti 1500X three times the price for three times the capacity? Isn't that fair?
On day one it's exactly fair. Both work out to 74 cents per watt-hour, which almost never lines up this cleanly. It stops being fair over time: the Power 500's cells are rated for 4,000 cycles against the Yeti's 500, so the cost per lifetime kilowatt-hour lands at 19 cents versus $1.48. You're paying the same rate for capacity and about eight times the rate for the energy you'll actually use.
Does the Goal Zero Yeti 1500X work as a UPS for my computer?
No. The X series doesn't do uninterruptible switchover, and Goal Zero publishes no changeover figure for it, so anything plugged in goes dark when the wall power does. The DJI Power 500 is rated at 20ms. If a battery under the desk is meant to keep a router or a PC up, that single row settles the comparison.
Will the Power 500 start a power tool or a fridge compressor?
Its spec sheet lists surge at 1,000W, identical to its continuous rating, which means DJI hasn't published a separate surge figure rather than that the inverter has no headroom. In testing it briefly handled a 1,500W surge above that 1,000W rating. But motors pull two to three times their rated wattage at startup, and if you need a number you can plan against, the Yeti's 3,500W is the only published ceiling here.
Which one is quieter?
The Power 500 publishes 25dB. Goal Zero publishes nothing for the Yeti 1500X, which isn't evidence that it's loud, and reviewers in fact describe it as a quiet unit. But if you're sleeping two feet from it, one of these has a figure you can hold it to and the other has your best guess.
