Take the Explorer 1000 Plus. Of the six jobs this page tests, the Yeti 500 finishes exactly one, the overnight CPAP, and it clears that with about 104Wh in reserve, which at the 40W a CPAP draws is roughly two and a half more hours of sleep. Everything else on the list it starts cleanly, holds steadily, and then runs out of.

It is also the cheaper energy over the pack's life and takes 800W of solar input against 200W, so the usual penalty for buying the bigger battery, waiting longer to refill it, doesn't apply. The Yeti isn't a bad unit. Yeti 500: 499Wh Is The Number, Not The Starting Point

The Explorer takes expansion batteries and the Yeti doesn't, which matters less than the word expandable suggests. At this size, added capacity buys longer runtimes on the same loads rather than a home-backup system. More hours, not more house. The batteries are also money you spend later, on top of what the Explorer already costs. The real consequence for the Yeti isn't that it can't grow, it's that you have to size it correctly on the first try, because the only upgrade path from a sealed 499Wh unit is a second unit beside it.

Warranty: A Tie, With One Asterisk

Five years each, so coverage settles nothing between them. The asterisk is that Jackery's five is three years plus two more that arrive only once you register the unit, so one of these terms asks something of you before it's real.
