Gunner’s take
Whole-Home Backup Tester
Both of these take extra batteries, so starting small doesn't lock you out of anything.
The DELTA 3 holds 1,024 Wh and grows from there. The DELTA 4 (3800) starts at 3,763 Wh, and EcoFlow quotes 4 to 12 kWh once you add up to two extra batteriesB6. The part that never grows is how fast the sun can refill either one.
You can add batteries later. You can't add solar inputs.
The DELTA 3 takes up to 500 W from panels. The DELTA 4 (3800) takes 1,000 W on each of two separate inputsB5. At full rated input each fills its own battery in about 2 hours, so the DELTA 4 (3800) puts back more than three and a half times the energy in the same afternoon.
It lists at $2,199, against $629 for the DELTA 3.
Per watt-hour that makes the DELTA 4 (3800) a touch cheaper, and EcoFlow says it ships in late NovemberB10. The DELTA 3 is on sale now, which matters if the outage you're worried about is next week.
What the Numbers Reveal
Each conclusion stated first — the numbers behind it on one line, the full analysis below.
A DELTA 3 grown into a big bank is a big tank on a garden hose. After three grey days, 500 W is what refills it, whatever size it has become. The DELTA 4 (3800) takes two separate sets of panels, and short winter days are exactly when that second input pays.
DELTA 3: 1,024 Wh, 500 W solar input, takes EcoFlow extra batteriesDELTA 4 (3800): two solar inputs at 1,000 W eachB5DELTA 4 (3800): 4 to 12 kWh with up to two extra batteries, by EcoFlow's figureB6
Why it mattersIf panels are your recharge plan, the input settles this before the battery does.
weight
At 67.5 lb it's a lift you plan, with bent knees and someone holding the door. The DELTA 3 is a box you grab on the way out. For a tailgate or a CPAP night the small box finishes the job, and the big one is a lot of battery riding along for nothing.
DELTA 3: 27 lb, with a car socketDELTA 4 (3800): 67.5 lb, a handle at each end, cart sold separatelyB7CPAP Overnight and Tailgate Party: both units finish
Why it mattersIf it travels more than it stays, start with the DELTA 3.
Add one extra battery and EcoFlow's 6 kWh kitB10 clears even the van-life day on paper, after our 15% allowance. The DELTA 3 would have to grow several times over to get there, and every watt-hour of it would come back through 500 W of solar.
8-Hour Blackout needs 1,645 Wh; the DELTA 3 has 870 Wh usableDELTA 4 (3800): 3,199 Wh usable, 1,554 Wh left after the nightVan Life Daily needs 4,685 Wh; the DELTA 4 (3800) alone is 1,486 Wh shortEcoFlow's kit with one extra battery: 6 kWh in allB10
Why it mattersIf your bad days run long or your rig lives off-grid, start at 3,763 Wh.
The specific dimensions that decide these two units — everything else is a tie.
Growth Path
Selected because: Both take extra batteries, but only one takes 2,000 W of solar to fill them.
solar input
The DELTA 3's battery port is a real alternative, right up until you count the panels. Start at 1,024 Wh, add batteries as the budget allows, and you never pay for a box you didn't need. The catch is that the intake stays at 500 W as the bank grows, so each battery you add is more to refill through the same port.
The DELTA 4 (3800) starts bigger and refills faster. It takes up to two of EcoFlow's DELTA Pro 3 or DELTA 3 Max Plus extra batteries through an adapterB6. Each of its two solar inputs accepts 11 to 60 VB5, measured as open-circuit voltage, the panel's no-load figure printed on its back as Voc. That's a wide window, so a second set of panels goes on without rewiring the first.
Your Life, Your Pick
Selected because: The DELTA 3 runs 775 Wh short of an eight-hour blackout, and the DELTA 4 (3800) finishes with 1,554 Wh left.
The DELTA 4 (3800) finishes our blackout night with more than a whole DELTA 3's worth left over. The night needs 1,645 Wh and it ends with 1,554 Wh in hand. The DELTA 3 alone runs 775 Wh short, so for outages it wants an extra battery from day one.
Small jobs are where the DELTA 3 earns its price. A CPAP night uses a bit over a third of it, and a tailgate leaves 200 Wh spare. The remote workday is the near miss at 40 Wh short, which one gadget fewer fixes. Van Life Daily beats both on their own batteries, and the DELTA 4 (3800) gets closer at 1,486 Wh short.
PowerScore Breakdown
Selected because: Twice the DELTA 3's inverter, continuous and surge, is most of why the bigger box scores higher.
overall power score
The bigger box also has twice the inverter, which matters more in a house than at a campsite. The DELTA 4 (3800) runs 3,600 W and surges to 7,200 W at 120 VB2. The DELTA 3 runs 1,800 W and surges to 3,600 W, so its peak is the big box's everyday rating. A space heater and a microwave at once is more than the DELTA 3 can carry, and well inside the DELTA 4 (3800).
The wall charge is sized to the circuit, not the box. EcoFlow rates it at 1,800 W from a US outlet, which is 15 A at 120 V, an ordinary circuit's whole ratingB4. On a garage circuit that also feeds a freezer, I'd turn the rate down in the app before the breaker does it for me.
Portability & Form Factor
Selected because: 27 lb against 67.5 lb: one travels, the other gets placed.
weight
The DELTA 3 is the one that leaves the house. At 27 lb it goes in the car without a plan, and its car socket runs a cooler on the drive. The DELTA 4 (3800) is 67.5 lb with a handle at each end and no car socketB3B7, a two-handed lift I'd plan before I made it.
Splitting the job is a fair answer. A DELTA 3 for the car plus an extra battery that stays home gives you a light box on Saturday and more battery when the power goes out. It doesn't give you the DELTA 4 (3800)'s solar intake, and that's the trade.

Conclusion
November 4, 2026
Verdict: the DELTA 3800 Gen4, on Power Score margin
If solar is how you'll refill, I'd buy the DELTA 4 (3800). Both units take extra batteries, so the DELTA 3's growth path is no edge on this page. What doesn't grow is the intake: the DELTA 3 takes 500 W of solar however big its bank gets, and the DELTA 4 (3800) takes 1,000 W on each of two inputsB5. It also has twice the DELTA 3's inverter and finishes our blackout night with 1,554 Wh left. The DELTA 3 is the right buy at $629 if one small battery covers your nights or the box rides in your car, at 27 lb against 67.5 lb. The $1,570 gap and a late-November ship dateB10 keep this a lean rather than a lock.
Today the DELTA 3 is $579, $50 under its typical $629. The verdict weighs typical prices, not today's. Prices checked 11 hours ago.

Each unit's star score is a category ranking, not customer reviews — no buyer opinions feed it. We score every station on size-independent quality (value, output, portability, endurance, ports, warranty, and more), then percentile-rank it against the other units in its capacity class, so a class-leading compact unit and a class-leading whole-home unit can both earn 5★. Here, DELTA 3 rates 4.5/5 (73rd percentile of 27 Everyday-class units), and DELTA 3800 Gen4 rates 4.1/5 (48th percentile of 22 Home Backup-class units).

A Lift You Plan
The DELTA 4 (3800) weighs 67.5 lb and the DELTA 3 weighs 27 lb. One goes in the car without a second thought. The other is a two-handed lift, so decide where it lives before it arrives.
Warranty: No Difference
Both units carry the same 5-year warranty, so coverage isn't a tiebreaker here. Both figures are maximums rather than guarantees — they depend on registering the unit in the EcoFlow app, which adds two years to a three-year standard term. Worth saying because the per-dollar framing can suggest otherwise: the DELTA 3 works out at 7.9 years of cover per $1,000 spent against the DELTA 3800 Gen4's 2.3, but that spread is the price gap, not the terms.
Battery Lifespan in Real Years
The DELTA 3800 Gen4 is rated for 6,000 cycles vs 4,000. In real life: at daily use, that's 16.4 vs 11 years. At weekend use (twice a week), it's 58 vs 38 years. One caution reading years across different sizes: a cycle is 3,763Wh on the DELTA 3800 Gen4 and 1,024Wh on the DELTA 3, so count lifetime energy — roughly 22,578 kWh against 4,096 kWh over the rated life. After hitting the cycle limit, the battery doesn't die — it drops to ~80% of original capacity, which is still very usable.

Analyst note
The DELTA 3 is cheaper to buy, but the DELTA 3800 Gen4 is cheaper to own. At $0.10/kWh over its lifetime vs $0.15/kWh, the DELTA 3800 Gen4's higher cycle life and capacity make each dollar go further over the years.

Analyst note
Both expand, but the DELTA 3800 Gen4's higher solar ceiling (2,000W vs 500W) gives it the stronger off-grid growth path — more panels can feed a bigger bank as it grows.
What Owners Report
Patterns from published owner reports and long-term reviews — every claim cited to its source below.
EcoFlow DELTA 3
The standard DELTA 3 has less field data than you'd expect. Our research found most published testing covers its Plus, Max and Ultra siblingsA0. What exists for this model is one hands-on review where the fans stayed off below 200 WA1. A switchover test that kept routers running was done on the DELTA 3 PlusA2, so I treat that as the family's behaviour, not a measurement of this box.
“At low loads (under 200W) the fans often stay completely off, making the Delta 3 effectively silent; under moderate load (500–800W) the fans are barely audible from three feet away.”

EcoFlow DELTA 3800 Gen4
Nobody has a DELTA 4 (3800) in their garage yet. EcoFlow opened US sales on November 4 and says it ships in late NovemberB10. What we know comes from EcoFlow's US spec sheet and our own sumsB0B1.
I'd want to hang two sets of panels on it on a short December day. One set facing southeast, one southwest, then see what the screen says at sundown. EcoFlow rates each input at 1,000 WB5. A winter afternoon is where that second input earns its keep or doesn't.
“Capacity 3,763 Wh, LFP (LiFePO4) cells. EcoFlow sells it as the DELTA 3800 Gen4; buyers and the press call the pair the DELTA 4.”

Who Should Buy Which
Buy the DELTA 3 if you…
- →Your nights are small. A CPAP night uses a bit over a third of its 1,024 Wh.
- →It rides in the car. 27 lb, with a car socket for a cooler.
- →You'd rather grow one battery at a time. It takes extra batteries as your list grows.
- →You need it before the bigger box ships. It's on sale now at $629, and EcoFlow says the DELTA 4 (3800) ships in late NovemberB10.
Buy the DELTA 3800 Gen4 if you…
- →Panels are your recharge plan. Two inputs take 1,000 W eachB5.
- →Your outages run long. It finishes our eight-hour night with 1,554 Wh left.
- →You'll grow well past a few kilowatt-hours. EcoFlow quotes 4 to 12 kWh with extra batteriesB6.
- →Your evenings stack big loads. 3,600 W continuous against the DELTA 3's 1,800 W.
If neither fits
If you need 240 V for a well pump or an electric dryer, skip both. Neither has a 240 V outlet, so look at a home backup system that puts out 240 V.
The Bottom Line
If panels will refill it, I'd buy the DELTA 4 (3800). Both grow, but only one grows with the solar to fill it, and it finishes the blackout night the DELTA 3 can't.
If your nights are small and the box travels, buy the DELTA 3 now and add a battery when you need one. It's 27 lb, it's on sale today, and it stays useful wherever your list goes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers drawn from the spec record and cited owner research.
How much is the EcoFlow DELTA 4 (3800) in the US?
It lists at $2,199 at EcoFlow's US store, against $629 for the DELTA 3. EcoFlow says it ships in late November.
Can I add batteries to the DELTA 3 later?
Yes. The DELTA 3 takes EcoFlow extra batteries, so you can start at 1,024 Wh and add capacity. Its solar input stays at 500 W as you do.
Which one charges faster from solar?
The DELTA 4 (3800). It takes 1,000 W on each of two inputs, against 500 W on the DELTA 3. At full rated input each fills its own battery in about 2 hours, so the DELTA 4 (3800) puts back more than three and a half times the energy in the same time.
How big can the DELTA 4 (3800) get with extra batteries?
EcoFlow quotes 4 to 12 kWh with up to two extra batteries, from its DELTA Pro 3 or DELTA 3 Max Plus lines. EcoFlow also sells a kit with one DELTA 3 Max Plus battery that comes to 6 kWh in all.
Is the DELTA 4 (3800) worth the extra weight over the DELTA 3?
Only if it mostly stays put. It weighs 67.5 lb against 27 lb and holds 3,763 Wh against 1,024 Wh. For a box that rides in the car most weekends, the DELTA 3 is the easier one to live with.
