At the register, the DELTA 3 Classic is the obvious bargain. It costs $700 less than the Max Plus, and it's cheaper per watt-hour of battery too. Spread each price over everything the battery should deliver in its life, though, and the order flips. The Max Plus has the higher cycle rating, which brings it to $0.15 per lifetime kWh against the Classic's $0.16.
That flip only pays off if you use the cycles. The overnight outage splits them sooner. An 8-hour blackout in our model draws 1,645Wh. After the allowance we take off every battery for conversion losses, the Classic runs out a little past halfway. The Max Plus finishes with 96Wh left. Thin, but through.
Up in Truckee, my version of a blackout is a storm that buries the panels for two days. On the clear morning after, these two refill at the same pace, about two hours of ideal sun each. The Max Plus doubles the solar port along with the battery. The Classic stays at 1,024Wh for life, and the Max Plus takes EcoFlow's expansion batteries.
