The second 512 watt-hours cost $170. The DELTA 3 Classic is $469 for 1,024Wh; the DJI Power 500 is $299 for 512Wh. Buying up doubles the battery for about eighteen cents a watt-hour ($170 ÷ 512Wh), which is less than a quarter of the rate the Power 500 charges for its own capacity ($299 ÷ 512Wh, or roughly seventy-four cents).

The Power 500 isn't a cheap DELTA, and that's the thing most head-to-heads get wrong about it. DJI arrived in this category in 2024 from the drone business, and the box optimizes for field-kit priorities: 16.1 lbs, a published 25dB, LFP cells rated for 4,000 cycles, and SDC ports that push charge straight into DJI batteries. Those are good priorities. They are not the priorities of someone buying their first outage battery.

So take the DELTA 3 Classic unless you fly DJI or the weight decides the trip. Its real weakness isn't hiding either: the 500W solar ceiling was flagged as low for a 2026 unit by two separate review outletsA5A9, and hands-on testing measured about 17W of idle drawA2, so this isn't a box you leave switched on in a closet waiting for a storm.

Fifteen cents a kilowatt-hour against nineteen, and the cheaper figure belongs to the more expensive box. That inversion is the most useful thing on this page, because the spec row that appears to argue the opposite, 4,000 cycles against 3,000, is the same arithmetic read from the wrong end.

A cycle is only worth what it carries. The Power 500 buys its extra three calendar years by moving half as much energy each time, so if your daily draw genuinely sits under 512Wh, the 11 years against 8.2 is honest and the DJI will outlast the EcoFlow. If it doesn't, the Power 500 can't finish your day on one cycle at all, and the years quietly stop meaning what they looked like they meant.

The Power 500's surge ceiling and its continuous rating are both 1,000W, which means nothing on paper is held back to absorb a motor starting, while the DELTA's 3,600W sits over an 1,800W continuous rating. The expansion card cuts less deeply than it looks: an EcoFlow expansion battery is a second purchase on another day, so if 1,024Wh already covers your list, the Power 500 being sealed at 512Wh isn't a defect. It's just a smaller box that told you its ceiling up front.

Buy the DELTA 3 Classic. It holds 1,024Wh at $469 against the Power 500's 512Wh at $299, so the extra capacity prices out at roughly eighteen cents a watt-hour ($170 ÷ 512Wh) while the DJI charges about seventy-four cents for the capacity it does have ($299 ÷ 512Wh), and the EcoFlow stays ahead to the end of the rated life at $0.15 per lifetime kWh against $0.19. The Power 500's surge ceiling and its continuous rating are the same figure: 1,000W. That's the spec that matters for anything with a motor, because startup draw arrives all at once and there's nothing published above the rating to absorb it. The DELTA 3 Classic lists 3,600W of surge over 1,800W continuous. For kettles, laptops and lights the difference never once appears. For a fridge or a compressor it's the whole question.

Buy the DELTA 3 Classic if you…

  • Anything on your list has a motor or a compressor: a fridge, a sump pump, a circular saw. 3,600W of surge over an 1,800W continuous rating is the margin that gets those spinning; 1,000W over 1,000W is not.
  • You want the outage box to cover more than one evening. 870Wh usable is roughly half the 1,645Wh eight-hour blackout list, and the Power 500's 435Wh is roughly a quarter of it.
  • You're going to put it on panels. 500W of input and a built-in charge controller means you buy a panel and a cable, not a panel and a proprietary adapter.

The Bottom Line

Take the DELTA 3 Classic. Doubling the battery costs $170 on this page, about eighteen cents a watt-hour, when the Power 500 charges roughly seventy-four cents for the capacity it already has, and the advantage survives all the way to the end of the rated life. Add the inverter headroom, 3,600W of surge over 1,800W continuous against a unit whose surge ceiling is its continuous rating, and there's no motor load anywhere on a normal list where the DJI is the safer bet.

The two reasons to buy the Power 500 instead are both real, and neither is price. If you fly DJI, the SDC ports are a feature the EcoFlow cannot answer. And if 16.1 lbs against 26.7 is the difference between the trip happening and the unit staying home, buy the light one and size your day to 435Wh. Is the DJI Power 500 worth it if I don't own a drone?

Mostly no. Take the SDC ports out of the picture and you're paying $299 for 512Wh against $469 for 1,024Wh, which works out to about seventy-four cents a watt-hour for the DJI and forty-six for the EcoFlow ($299 ÷ 512 and $469 ÷ 1,024). The exception is weight: at 16.1 lbs against 26.7, the Power 500 is much the easier box to move. If that isn't your constraint, the DELTA is the better buy.

Can either of these run a fridge through a power outage?

Start one, probably. Run it all night, no. The DELTA publishes 3,600W of surge over an 1,800W continuous rating, which is the headroom a compressor's startup wants, while the Power 500's surge ceiling is the same 1,000W as its continuous rating. Does the DELTA 3 Classic's 500W solar input hold it back?

It's the most-criticised thing about the unit, with two review outlets calling the cap low for a 2026 release. In practice 1,024Wh at 500W is a bit over two hours of ideal sun (1,024 ÷ 500), which is fine for a weekend. It's also still the higher of the two here: the Power 500 accepts 300W, and it has no built-in charge controller, so you need DJI's proprietary adapter before a panel does anything at all.

The DJI is rated for more cycles. Doesn't that mean it lasts longer?

In calendar years yes, in energy no. 4,000 cycles at 512Wh is 2,048 kWh over the life of the pack, while 3,000 cycles at 1,024Wh is 3,072 kWh. The Power 500 stretches to about 11 years of daily use against the DELTA's 8.2 by moving half as much energy each night. If your daily need runs over 512Wh it can't finish a day on a single cycle, and the extra years stop meaning what they appear to mean.
