The catch is that cost per kWh only measures the right thing if energy is what you're buying. Nobody purchases a 94.7Wh bank to store cheap electricity. A five-year warranty is a five-year relationship, and on a $1,699 unit that deserves more thought than the sticker does. What we can say about the Apex 300 so far is that its early record is largely a firmware record: four separate owner reports of an update breaking something, from a unit stuck in Backup mode to Bluetooth dropping out of a Home Assistant integrationA1A2A3A4. The unit is new enough that this is simply the evidence that exists, not a verdict on the hardware.
Goal Zero's side of this is smaller in every direction. It's a US company in Salt Lake City with the longest heritage in the category, and it's asking you for $250 and two years rather than $1,699 and five.
