Is the HomePower 2000 Plus v2 just a bigger Explorer?
Roughly — bigger and expandable, but not rugged. Both are Jackery LFP units sharing 800W solar, a 5-year warranty, and a 30 dB rating. The HomePower adds 512Wh, 2,000 cycles, more output and surge, and an expansion port. The Explorer trades all of that for an IP65 sealed body the HomePower doesn't offer. Same family, different jobs.
Do I need the Explorer's IP65 rating?
Only if the unit will be exposed to weather. IP65 makes the Explorer 1500 Ultra dustproof and resistant to rain and splashes — genuinely useful on a boat, at a jobsite, or camping in the wet. If your unit lives indoors or under cover, you'll never use the rating, and the HomePower's extra capacity and expandability are the better use of the money.
Which one lasts longer?
The HomePower, clearly. It's rated for 6,000 charge cycles to the Explorer's 4,000, and it holds more, so over its life it delivers about 12,288 kWh against 6,144 — exactly double. That drops its cost-to-own to $0.09 per lifetime kWh from the Explorer's $0.16. Both are long-lived LFP units; the HomePower is simply the longer-lived of the two.
