So the money argument has a condition attached, and it's worth being straight about it. A 20ms switchover means a router, modem or desktop plugged into it never registers the grid dropping. 100W over USB-C charges a laptop without waking the AC inverter or paying its conversion losses. App control means you check the charge from the sofa. The Explorer 500 has neither the switchover nor the app, and its spec sheet lists no USB-C power delivery at all.

The catch worth volunteering runs the other way. All of that is ride-through and convenience, not endurance, and the Explorer 500's answer to every one of those features is that it holds more than twice as much energy. A UPS that keeps your router alive for a flicker is a genuinely useful thing to own. It is not a backup plan, and no amount of switchover speed changes what 208Wh can do.

The warranty gap here is unusually load-bearing because of what it sits next to. Jackery covers this unit for two years, and its own cycle rating puts the pack at 80% capacity after about 2.2 years of daily use. Those two numbers landing on top of each other means the failure mode most likely to bother you is the one the cover has just stopped paying for. EcoFlow's five years on a 3,000-cycle pack is the opposite arrangement.

Neither company's direct support is a reason to choose it, which makes the retailer the real warranty on both sides. Jackery's distribution through Costco, Home Depot and Best Buy is a genuine advantage in that light, and it matters more on the unit with the shorter cover. Buy either one somewhere with a return policy you'd actually be willing to use.

At the ~70W this card assumes for real-world conditions, the Explorer 500's 518Wh needs roughly 7.4 hours of direct sun and the RIVER 3's 245Wh about 3.5. One of those is a whole solar day. The other is a morning.

No. An overnight CPAP draws about 320Wh in our model and the RIVER 3 has 208Wh usable once inverter losses are accounted for, leaving it 112Wh short, which is roughly a third of the night. Will either of these get me through a blackout?

Not the eight-hour kind people mean. That load is 1,645Wh, and the larger of these two has 440Wh usable, so you're looking at about a quarter of the outage from the Explorer 500 and about an eighth from the RIVER 3.
