Both of these have left EcoFlow's store. The RIVER 2 is no longer listed, and the Max is sold out in every version. EcoFlow now sells the RIVER 2 240 and the RIVER 2 Max 500, each the same unit with a slightly smaller battery.
They are one family at two sizes. The Max holds exactly twice the battery of the RIVER 2 and takes twice the solar. The inverter, the part that turns battery power into wall-style AC, climbs from 300W to 500W.
What the RIVER 2 keeps is weight. It's 7.8 lb against the Max's 13.4. I'd feel that difference by the top of the Dipsea steps. I wouldn't feel it at all on a closet shelf, which is where a backup unit spends most of its life.

Most of the board comes back 'neither'. A camping weekend, an eight-hour blackout and a day of van life all ask for far more energy than either box holds. The row that splits them is the CPAP night, which goes to the Max with 115Wh to spare.
