EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max Plus vs EcoFlow DELTA 3800 Gen4The Same Extra Battery Fits Both. So Which Box Do You Start With?
Both take the same EcoFlow extra battery, so the real question is where you start. For outage backup I'd start with the DELTA 4 (3800), unless you'll carry it often or would rather add batteries as you go.

Whole-Home Backup Tester
These two share a battery, so the question is which box you start with.
EcoFlow's DELTA 3 Max Plus extra battery plugs into the Max PlusA4 and, through EcoFlow's expansion adapter, into the DELTA 4 (3800)B6. Buy either one and the battery you add later has two homes.
Out of the box, the DELTA 4 (3800) is the bigger start by 1,715 Wh.
It holds 3,763 Wh at 67.5 lb against 2,048 Wh at 50.7 lb. It runs 3,600 W against 3,000 W, and its two solar inputs take 2,000 W where the Max Plus takes 1,000 WB5.
The money is closer than the gap looks.
EcoFlow lists the DELTA 4 (3800) at $2,199 on its US storeB10, $1,000 more than the Max Plus at $1,199. Per watt-hour of battery, the two cost about the same.
What the Numbers Reveal
Each conclusion stated first — the numbers behind it on one line, the full analysis below.
Capacity
The Max Plus finishes at 94% used, with 6% of a second night left. The DELTA 4 (3800) finishes at 51% with 94% of a second night in hand. Outages don't end on schedule, and the second evening is where the smaller battery has nothing left to give.
DELTA 4 (3800): 3,763 Wh; DELTA 3 Max Plus: 2,048 Wh8-Hour Blackout needs 1,645 WhLeft after the night: 1,554 Wh on the DELTA 4 (3800), 96 Wh on the Max Plus
Why it mattersIf your outages have ever run past one evening, start with the DELTA 4 (3800).
solar input
An extra battery fixes the Max Plus's capacity but not its solar port. A grown Max Plus is a bigger tank behind the same 1,000 W input, so every battery you add takes longer to refill from panels. The DELTA 4 (3800) grows from a 2,000 W base.
DELTA 4 (3800): two solar inputs, 11 to 60 V, 1,000 W each, 2,000 W totalB5DELTA 3 Max Plus: 1,000 W solar inputCapacities: 3,763 Wh against 2,048 Wh
Why it mattersIf panels are part of the plan, the DELTA 4 (3800) is the better base to build on.
So the start-small route wins on capacity whenever one extra battery costs less than the $1,000 gap. It doesn't buy the bigger inverter, the second solar input or a single box. It's two boxes and a cable, with the Max Plus's 1,000 W of solar feeding both.
DELTA 3 Max Plus: takes EcoFlow's extra batteries up to 10kWhA4DELTA 4 (3800): up to two extra batteries, the DELTA 3 Max Plus's 2,048 Wh one among them; EcoFlow quotes 4 to 12 kWhB6Price gap: $1,000
Why it mattersPrice one DELTA 3 Max Plus extra battery before you decide. If it comes in under the gap and you don't run panels, start small.
The specific dimensions that decide these two units — everything else is a tie.
Growth Path
Selected because: Both take the DELTA 3 Max Plus extra battery, so starting small is a real route.
solar input
The batteries are shared, which makes the small start honest. The Max Plus grows to 10kWh with EcoFlow's extra batteriesA4. The DELTA 4 (3800) takes up to two, either the DELTA 3 Max Plus extra battery or the DELTA Pro 3's, and EcoFlow quotes 4 to 12 kWh in allB6. EcoFlow even sells it in a kit with a Max Plus extra battery, 6 kWh in allB10.
A grown Max Plus still drinks through a 1,000 W straw. One extra battery puts it past the DELTA 4 (3800) on capacity. It adds no solar input, so every battery you hang off it takes longer to refill from panels. If the sun is your generator, the 2,000 W base is the better foundation.
Your Life, Your Pick
Selected because: The 8-Hour Blackout ends with 96 Wh on the Max Plus and 1,554 Wh on the DELTA 4 (3800).
The Max Plus finishes the blackout with almost nothing left. It ends the 1,645 Wh night at 94% used, 96 Wh in hand. The DELTA 4 (3800) ends at 51% with 1,554 Wh, nearly enough to do the whole night again.
Weekend Camping is the one the Max Plus misses outright. After the flat 85% we count as usable, it has 1,741 Wh against the 2,100 Wh the weekend needs and comes up 359 Wh short. The DELTA 4 (3800) covers it with 1,099 Wh spare. A CPAP night, a workday and a tailgate fit both with room left.
Portability & Form Factor
Selected because: 50.7 lb against 67.5 lb, and only the Max Plus has a 12 V car socket.
weight
The 16.8 lb gap decides where each box lives. The Max Plus is 50.7 lb, a box I'd carry across a campground. The DELTA 4 (3800) is 67.5 lb with a handle at each end, and EcoFlow sells a folding cart for it separatelyB7. I'd lift it into a truck bed alone, once, and set it down where it's staying.
Only the Max Plus has a 12 V car socket. Our record gives it one and the DELTA 4 (3800) noneB3. If you run a 12 V cooler at camp, that socket counts for more than the DELTA 4's extra AC outlet. The DELTA 4's five outlets include a 30 A twist-lock, the locking plug heavier cords useB3.
What the Specs Don't Tell You
Selected because: The DELTA 4 (3800) weighs 16.8 lb more and is rated for 6,000 cycles against 4,000.
rated cycles
Weight is the honest catch on my pick. 67.5 lb is heavier than a large checked suitcase, and the DELTA 4 (3800) has no wheels of its ownB7. If it lives beside the fridge, that costs you once. If it goes to the cabin every other weekend, it costs you every trip.
The cycle rating runs the other way. The DELTA 4 (3800) is rated for 6,000 cycles against the Max Plus's 4,000, about 22,578 kWh over its rated life against 8,192 kWh. Both carry three years plus two more when registered in EcoFlow's appB9, so the warranty doesn't split them.

Conclusion
November 4, 2026
Verdict: the DELTA 3800 Gen4, on Power Score margin
For outage backup, I'd start with the DELTA 4 (3800). It holds 3,763 Wh against 2,048 Wh, takes 2,000 W of solar against 1,000 W and runs 3,600 W against 3,000 W, at about the same money per watt-hour. It ends our blackout night with 94% of a second night in hand, where the Max Plus has 6%. Both grow with EcoFlow's DELTA 3 Max Plus extra batteryA4B6, so the Max Plus is a real starting point rather than a dead end. Buy it if you'll carry the box often, run 12 V gear, or would rather spend $1,000 less today and add a battery later. The DELTA 4 (3800) ships in late NovemberB10.

Each unit's star score is a category ranking, not customer reviews — no buyer opinions feed it. We score every station on size-independent quality (value, output, portability, endurance, ports, warranty, and more), then percentile-rank it against the other units in its capacity class, so a class-leading compact unit and a class-leading whole-home unit can both earn 5★. Here, DELTA 3 Max Plus rates 4.2/5 (54th percentile of 29 Large-class units), and DELTA 3800 Gen4 rates 4.1/5 (48th percentile of 22 Home Backup-class units).

Hidden gotchas and advantages we spotted that you won't find on the product page.
16.8 lb More, and No Wheels
The DELTA 4 (3800) weighs 67.5 lb to the Max Plus's 50.7 lb. It carries by a handle at each end, and EcoFlow sells a folding cart separately. One person can lift it into a car. Nobody carries it across a campground for fun.
Warranty: No Difference
Both units carry the same 5-year warranty, so coverage isn't a tiebreaker here. Both figures are maximums rather than guarantees — they depend on registering the unit in the EcoFlow app, which adds two years to a three-year standard term. Worth saying because the per-dollar framing can suggest otherwise: the DELTA 3 Max Plus works out at 4.2 years of cover per $1,000 spent against the DELTA 3800 Gen4's 2.3, but that spread is the price gap, not the terms.
Battery Lifespan in Real Years
The DELTA 3800 Gen4 is rated for 6,000 cycles vs 4,000. In real life: at daily use, that's 16.4 vs 11 years. At weekend use (twice a week), it's 58 vs 38 years. One caution reading years across different sizes: a cycle is 3,763Wh on the DELTA 3800 Gen4 and 2,048Wh on the DELTA 3 Max Plus, so count lifetime energy — roughly 22,578 kWh against 8,192 kWh over the rated life. After hitting the cycle limit, the battery doesn't die — it drops to ~80% of original capacity, which is still very usable.

Analyst note
The DELTA 3 Max Plus is cheaper to buy, but the DELTA 3800 Gen4 is cheaper to own. At $0.10/kWh over its lifetime vs $0.15/kWh, the DELTA 3800 Gen4's higher cycle life and capacity make each dollar go further over the years.

Analyst note
Both expand, but the DELTA 3800 Gen4's higher solar ceiling (2,000W vs 1,000W) gives it the stronger off-grid growth path — more panels can feed a bigger bank as it grows.
What Owners Report
Patterns from published owner reports and long-term reviews — every claim cited to its source below.
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max Plus
Reviewers found the Max Plus quiet and fast to refill. At a meter it barely registered above room noise even charging at full powerA2, and one review had it full in around 70 minutesA3. They also call its output a real step up from the DELTA 3 MaxA1.
The warmest words go to its expansion. Reviewers describe growing it with extra batteries as polished and effortlessA4. Our research notes long-term owner data is still accumulatingA0.
“Bumps output to 3,000W continuous with a 6,000W surge — a significant upgrade over the DELTA 3 Max's 2,400W and 4,800W surge.”

EcoFlow DELTA 3800 Gen4
Nobody owns a DELTA 4 (3800) yet. EcoFlow put it on sale in the US on November 4 and says it ships in late NovemberB10, so this side of the page is EcoFlow's spec table and FAQ plus our own arithmeticB1B6.
I'd want to move a battery between the two boxes. If I had both, I'd take a Max Plus extra battery off the Max Plus, cable it to the DELTA 4 (3800) through EcoFlow's adapterB6, and see whether the app counts it without a fight. The whole start-small plan rests on that swap, so it's the first thing I'd try.
“Capacity 3,763 Wh, LFP (LiFePO4) cells. EcoFlow sells it as the DELTA 3800 Gen4; buyers and the press call the pair the DELTA 4.”

If your house has a well pump or an electric dryer on 240 V, close this tab. Neither box has a 240 V outlet, so look at a unit or home battery that puts out 240 V.
The Bottom Line
For outage backup, start with the DELTA 4 (3800). It's 1,715 Wh more battery and twice the solar from day one, for about the same money per watt-hour.
If you'll carry it, or you'd rather grow into it, start with the Max Plus. The extra battery you add later fits the DELTA 4 tooB6, so nothing you buy for it is wasted if you move up.
