Both of these have left EcoFlow's range. The DELTA 3 1000 Air went in August, and the RIVER 3 Max Plus followed three weeks later. What I find interesting is where EcoFlow sends you next. Air shoppers get pointed at the DELTA 3 Classic. RIVER shoppers get pointed at the RIVER 2 Pro. So nobody is choosing between this pair at checkout any more. This page is for the person who owns one, or who has found one in a retailer's leftover stock.
On paper they look like near-twins. Each holds a little under a kilowatt-hour. Each uses cells rated for 3,000 cycles, where a cycle is one full drain and refill. Each is rated to switch to battery within 10ms when the wall power drops. They were built differently, though. The Air is one sealed box that reviewers saw as a home-office backupA2. The RIVER is really two pieces: a RIVER 3 Plus with EcoFlow's larger add-on battery attachedB2.
Where they split matters to someone like me. My cabin in Truckee runs on panels, and the Air's solar input is 500W, more than twice the RIVER's. On a short Tahoe winter day I'd want the bigger port. Our load models are hard on both boxes for the big jobs. A camping weekend, an eight-hour blackout and a day of van life all come back short on each. The remote workday is the near miss. The Air's 960Wh clears it on the label, and only our flat 15% allowance for conversion losses tips it under.
The small jobs go fine. A CPAP night uses well under half of either battery.
