Spec deltas
Buy the Explorer 1000 Plus, and not for the reason the price tag suggests. The $440 between them ($699 against $259) buys 971 more watt-hours (1,264Wh against 293Wh), which prices the upgrade at 74 cents a watt-hour. The Explorer 300 charges 95 cents a watt-hour for the energy it does hold. The expensive box is selling the cheaper energy.
The load board makes the same point less politely. Across the six scenarios this site runs, the Explorer 300 clears none of them. Its closest call is the CPAP night, where it holds 249Wh usable against the 320Wh the scenario needs and comes up 71Wh short.
