Take the Power 1000 if you need an actual power station: at $699 it clears two of our six real-world load tests outright, CPAP Overnight and Tailgate Party, while the $199 RIVER 3 clears none of the six. The capacity gap explains why. 1,024Wh against 245Wh is better than four times as much, for three and a half times the price ($699 versus $199).
None of that is about brand. It's about what $199 actually buys. The RIVER 3 runs $0.81 per watt-hour of capacity; the Power 1000 runs $0.68. Play it out over the warranty and the gap holds: $0.27 per lifetime kWh for the RIVER 3 against $0.17 for the Power 1000. The cheaper unit is still the worse deal per watt-hour, both up front and over its life. You're not buying a discount, you're buying less.
So why does the RIVER 3 exist at all? Because 7.8 lbs goes in a daypack and 28.7 lbs is something you carry with both hands and set down deliberately. It's sized for a different job entirely: keeping a phone, tablet, and laptop alive for a day away from an outlet, not carrying a campsite or a blackout.
The Power 1000 does better, but 'better' still has a ceiling. The RIVER 3 runs $0.81 per watt-hour of capacity against the Power 1000's $0.68: the 'budget' unit is the more expensive one to buy energy from. Spread each unit's full lifetime output across its price and the gap holds: $0.27 per lifetime kWh for the RIVER 3, $0.17 for the Power 1000. Brand Trust
Selected because: EcoFlow's recall history and DJI's thin power-station track record are both real considerations for a five-year purchase, pulling in opposite directions.
EcoFlow is the establishment here: 12 to 15 models deep, the largest community in the category, and the fastest-charging tech in the business (their X-Stream system). That scale comes with scale's problems. EcoFlow recalled the DELTA Max 2000 in October 2025 over an overheating and fire risk (six incidents), and tested a subscription paywall on app features in early 2025 before backing off under community pressure. Neither event touches the RIVER 3 specifically, but they're the track record of the company standing behind it.
DJI is the opposite bet: four power station models total, on the market since 2024, with no dedicated power-station community yet. Discussion of the Power 1000 lives inside r/dji, a drone-focused subreddit of roughly 250,000 members. What DJI brings instead is a repair and support network built over a decade of drone hardware, plus a caveat of its own: no built-in solar charge controller, and battery expansion exists on the newer Power 2000 and Power 1000 V2 but not on this base model. Newer company, thinner power-station track record, backed by a hardware maker that already knows how to run a repair network.
