Then it doubles the inverter, 600W continuous against 300W, doubles the solar input, and adds UPS and app control the Jackery doesn't have. The Explorer 300's reply is 25 more watt-hours, three fewer pounds, and a fan rated 36dB against 50. On paper this isn't close.

Off paper it gets closer, because the EB3A's exclusive feature is the one with a record attached. Owners describe the unit throwing a false 'overload' and shutting down under 40-60W loads in UPS mode, across three separate sources and three years, with firmware updates that didn't fix itA5A6A7A8. The Explorer 300's ledger is thin, and part of it doesn't belong to this unit. Two of its four entries were researched against the Explorer 300 Plus, a different battery with a different chemistry and a different cycle rating, so the longevity praise built on them tells you nothing about the 800-cycle unit on this page — which is why this page does not cite them.

What is left is two owner reports, both positive and both modest in scope: one ran phones, a speaker, a fan and an air mattress through a camping trip and called it easy to use, light and quietB3; another recharged multiple electronics daily and ran small-wattage devices for about two weeks before reaching a low chargeB4. A 320Wh CPAP night, a 910Wh work-from-home day, a 1,645Wh eight-hour blackout, a 2,100Wh camping weekend, 4,685Wh of van life — all six return 'neither', and only the CPAP night is close, at 92Wh and 71Wh short. Run the same 85% derate backwards and you get what you actually need: about 375Wh of nameplate for the CPAP night, about 1,935Wh for the blackout, about 2,470Wh for the camping weekend, and about 5,510Wh for the van. Neither of these expands, so you cannot grow into any of it. If one of those is your real list, this is the wrong shelf entirely — shop to the nameplate figure and treat a box this size as the spare you leave in the car, not the one you rely on.

Take the EB3A. It costs less, is rated for three times the charge cycles, doubles the inverter and doubles the solar input, and across everything it will ever deliver it is the cheaper energy by a wide margin. The Explorer 300's answer is three pounds and fourteen decibels, and that is a genuine answer for exactly one buyer: the person whose box lives in a bedroom or goes into a backpack. If that is you, pay the extra $40 without regret.

Keep the carve-out in view on the way out. The EB3A's UPS badge is the thing its owners complain about most, in precisely the 40-60W band where a CPAP or a router sitsA5A7A8, so buy it as a fast little inverter with a long rated life and not as a bedside battery backup. If a bedside battery backup is what you came here for, neither of these is it, and no amount of choosing carefully between them will change that.

The EB3A, and the math isn't close. It is $219 against $259 and rated for 2,500 cycles against 800, which works out to 33 cents per kilowatt-hour across its rated life against $1.19. The Explorer 300's 25 extra watt-hours do not move that number, and nothing else on its spec sheet does either.

Can either of these run a CPAP all night?

No. A full night in our scenario set is 320Wh, and after the standard 85% derate the EB3A has 228Wh to give and the Explorer 300 has 249Wh — 92Wh and 71Wh short. On top of that, the EB3A's UPS mode has a documented history of false 'overload' shutdowns under exactly the 40-60W load a CPAP presents. For overnight medical gear, buy something rated well above 375Wh and don't make this the deciding page.

Which one is quieter?

The Explorer 300, by 14dB — 36 against the EB3A's 50. The gap matters more than the numbers suggest because the EB3A's fan starts itself: owners describe it running in silent mode, at idle, and while already fully charged with AC plugged in. If the unit sleeps in the same room as you, buy the Jackery.

Does the Jackery Explorer 300 have UPS or app control?

Neither. It publishes no switchover time and has no app, so a blackout cuts anything plugged into it, and checking the charge level means walking over and looking. The EB3A has both, a quoted 30ms handover and phone monitoring, though one reviewer disputes the handover and describes a 1-2 second interruption instead.

Can either one start a fridge or a power tool?

The EB3A has a real chance; the Explorer 300 mostly doesn't. 600W continuous with 1,200W of surge is a 2x ratio, against 300W continuous and 500W of surge at 1.7x, and motors briefly pull two to three times their rated draw at startup. In our tailgate scenario the 400W draw is already above the Explorer 300's 300W continuous rating before surge is even the question.
