EcoFlow PowerRock 4000

A 4 kW, 3,072 Wh jobsite power station in a sealed metal body with a built-in RCD, aimed at the European contractor who cannot run a combustion generator.

EcoFlow announced the PowerRock 4000 at IFA Berlin on September 4, 2026 as an industrial portable power station: 4,000 W continuous at 230 V, a 3,072 Wh pack, a surge ladder EcoFlow publishes in full — 7.2 kW for up to 100 s, 9 kW for up to 10 s, 10 kW for 20 ms — a 30 mA residual-current device built in, an all-metal IP65 housing inside a roll cage, 38 kg, and a three-year warranty. It charges from mains, a vehicle alternator or a generator, and not from solar. EcoFlow calls it launched across Europe, but that means announced: the buy button says “Coming soon”, no EcoFlow store lists it, and orders go through its sales team, and distributor rollout is due from November 2026 in 26 named countries that do not include the UK. No US launch has been announced. No price has been published in any currency, and neither have the cell chemistry, cycle life, socket standard, any USB or DC output, or any UPS behaviour.

01 · What was announced

What EcoFlow said, and what it means

Announced September 4, 2026 at IFA Berlin 2026. The framing below is ours; every figure in it is graded in the ledger that follows.

EcoFlow’s own framing is the buyer’s real problem: temporary site power means a permit, an electrician and a wait measured in weeks, and a combustion generator is restricted in dense urban areas, unsafe indoors and impossible below ground. The PowerRock 4000 is EcoFlow’s answer for that site — its placard calls it an industrial portable power station — and it is sold like site equipment, not like a DELTA: not through EcoFlow’s store but through enterprise sales now and, from November 2026, through professional electrical, hardware, building-materials and tool distributors and rental partners across 26 European countries.

Mechanically it is a 3,072 Wh pack behind a 4,000 W, 230 V inverter in an all-metal IP65 housing with a roll cage, at 38 kg. Three things separate it from the consumer units that share its numbers. The residual-current device is built in — 30 mA detection, cut-off in under 300 ms — which EcoFlow says removes the inline RCD modules European sites otherwise hang off every distribution board, and which it calls an industry first by its own assessment. The surge is published as a ladder with times and temperatures rather than a single peak. And the inputs are a site’s inputs: 220–240 V mains at up to 16 A, a vehicle alternator at 42–60 V DC, or a generator — with solar explicitly not supported.

What EcoFlow has not said is a long list. No price in any currency. No order date beyond “coming soon” and a November distributor rollout. No cell chemistry, no cycle life, no socket standard for the two AC outlets, no word on any USB or 12 V output, and no UPS or pass-through claim. The UK is not among the 26 launch countries and no US launch has been announced; the only product pages are German and French.

It does not say whether they are Schuko or CEE. At 230 V, 4,000 W is about 17.4 A, so the full rating needs both sockets, not one (our arithmetic).

What the published numbers imply

EcoFlow has published no runtimes and no charging-circuit requirement. These are our estimates from EcoFlow’s figures, and they are labelled as our analysis everywhere they appear.

Our analysisWhat the charging claims imply

080% of a 3.07 kWh pack is 2,458 Wh in 48 minutes: an average of about 3.1 kW of AC input, which is comfortably inside an ordinary 230 V / 16 A outlet.

AC to 80% is 48 minutes in EcoFlow’s press release and 49 in its own FAQ; both say 60 minutes to full. The other ways in are a vehicle alternator (42–60 V DC, 20 A max) or a generator — not solar, which EcoFlow states is not supported.

Our analysis Surge headroom

7,200 W peak is 1.8× the continuous rating. Consumer stations run 1.5–2×, which is why a 3,600 W unit can stall on a compressor start. What decides real-world starts is how long the peak is held — the one surge number EcoFlow has not published.

04 · Our take

What the PowerRock 4000 is really for, and who it is aimed at

Analysis by the Test Desk — not a summary of EcoFlow’s release or anyone else’s coverage. Every comparison figure below comes from the named maker’s own page.

Start with the number EcoFlow already sells. 3,072 Wh is the DELTA 3 Ultra’s pack to the watt-hour, and that unit is on sale today with a 3,600 W inverter at 72.1 lb, and it charges from solar. So the PowerRock’s case cannot rest on capacity, and only barely on output — 4,000 W against 3,600 W. What the extra weight (83.8 lb against 72.1 lb) and the wait buy is everything around the pack: an all-metal IP65 housing in a roll cage with a 1 m drop claim, a 30 mA residual-current device that trips in under 300 ms, an alternator input, peaks rated in seconds rather than a single number, and a three-year warranty. Judge it on those lines, because the pack is not new.

The surge spec is the best thing on the sheet, and almost nobody has printed it. The press release stops at 7.2 kW; EcoFlow’s own spec page goes on: 7.2 kW for up to 100 s at 25 °C or 60 s at 35 °C, 9 kW for up to 10 s at 35 °C, 10 kW for 20 ms. A ladder with times and temperatures is what tells you whether a motor starts — a motor’s start is measured in seconds, not milliseconds, a welder’s run lasts the length of a rod, and a summer site is not 25 °C — and a single peak figure answers none of that. BLUETTI’s Pioneer 5000, announced the same day for the same buyer, prints 18 kW and no duration at all. The bigger number is not the better spec until BLUETTI says how long it is held; until then the PowerRock is the only one of the pair whose surge you can size a tool against.

Then the line most readers will fill in wrongly. The PowerRock does not charge from solar: EcoFlow says so in as many words, and the spec sheet has no PV row. It refills from 220–240 V mains at up to 16 A, from a vehicle alternator at 42–60 V DC and up to 20 A, or from a generator, and EcoFlow publishes a charge time only for mains. For a site that is a coherent choice — the pack is meant to be filled overnight in the yard or in the van between jobs, not from a panel leaning on a fence — but it is the opposite of what the category has trained buyers to expect, and it means a site with no mains, no vehicle and no generator has no way to top the unit up at all. If your work is remote, EcoFlow’s own DELTA 3 Ultra keeps this pack and adds the panel input.

EcoFlow’s stand wall gave two runtimes worth a minute’s arithmetic, which is ours. A breaker at 2,200 W for about 1 h 14 min draws roughly 2,700 Wh, about 88% of the 3,072 Wh pack — plausible for a tool held near flat out. A cut-off saw at 2,700 W for about 1 h 7 min would need about 3,000 Wh, 98% of the pack, which no inverter delivers; read that one as 54 cuts with the saw spinning down between them, not 2,700 W held for an hour. Our flat 85%-usable planning figure gives 1 h 11 min at a continuous 2,200 W and about 58 min at 2,700 W. The conditions behind EcoFlow’s two figures — ambient, tool, duty cycle — are not published, and neither figure appears anywhere but the stand.

Wait or buy? If you are in one of the 26 launch countries and the job is indoor, below ground or noise-restricted — the site where a combustion generator is not allowed and an inspector will ask about residual-current protection — the PowerRock is built for exactly that, the RCD is aimed at exactly that inspector, and the sensible move is to register with EcoFlow’s enterprise channel and wait, because nothing about it can be priced yet. Everywhere else there is nothing to wait for: the UK is not on the list and no US launch has been announced. And if the problem is energy and output rather than sealing and compliance, the answer is already on the shelf — the DELTA 3 Ultra above, or BLUETTI’s Apex 300, which weighs what the PowerRock weighs, pushes 3,840 W and takes solar. Two things would change our read: a published price, and a socket panel that turns out to be CEE 16 A rather than domestic, which would make this site power rather than a very rugged power station.

The story behind the launch is that two makers opened the same category in one week. The Pioneer 5000 and the PowerRock 4000 were announced on the same day at the same show, for the same European contractor and rental yard, and they answer the brief differently. BLUETTI went bigger and wheeled: 5 kW, a 5.12 kWh pack, expansion, and a bare 18 kW peak. EcoFlow went sealed and carried: 4 kW, a 3,072 Wh pack, an RCD, and a peak spec written out in seconds. Neither has a price. The carry-on incumbent both are measured against, Instagrid’s ONE max, is 2.1 kWh, 3.6 kW and 20 kg with IP54 — so EcoFlow’s answer to it is more energy, a little more continuous power and a better ingress rating at 38 kg against 20 kg, and BLUETTI’s is to change the question with wheels. Which answer the yards prefer will turn on the two numbers nobody has published: the price, and the length of BLUETTI’s 18 kW.

Who should wait for it, and who should not

Read from what EcoFlow chose to announce and what it chose to leave out.

Worth waiting for if you are

  • Indoor, below-ground and noise-restricted work in the 26 launch countries, where a combustion generator is banned or unsafe and an inspector will ask about residual-current protection — the one buyer we’d tell to register and wait.
  • Crews whose van or site already has an alternator feed or a generator, because for them we’d call the missing solar input a non-issue: the pack refills between jobs and overnight.
  • Welding and cutting jobs you can size to the published tiers — 7.2 kW for the length of a welding rod by EcoFlow’s own framing, 9 kW for up to 10 s, 10 kW for 20 ms — which we’d rather have than a bigger peak with no duration.
  • Rental fleets that want a metal-bodied IP65 unit with a stated 1 m drop claim and a three-year warranty on the fleet sheet — if you can wait for a price, we’d say wait.

Buy something that ships if you are

  • Anyone who needs to order one — no price exists in any currency, the buy panel reads “Coming soon”, distributor rollout is not due until November 2026, the UK is not among the 26 launch countries and no US launch has been announced, so outside those 26 countries we’d stop waiting.
  • Remote or off-grid work with no mains, vehicle or generator to hand — EcoFlow states solar charging is not supported, and we would not buy a unit we could not refill.
  • North American home backup — it is a 230 V / 50 Hz unit with no US launch announced, no UL, ETL or FCC mark listed and no UPS or pass-through behaviour published, and we would not put it behind a house on that basis.
  • Camping and travel — it is a 38 kg roll-caged carry, and we’d buy the same 3,072 Wh lighter in the DELTA 3 Ultra or the HomePower 3000.
